ONE PIECE glossary: S-Z
[A-F / G-L / M-R]
- SABAGASHIRA ICHIGOU (ship)
- See MACKEREL HEAD #1.
- SAKURETSU SHURIKEN (weapon)
- See EXPLOSIVE STARS.
- SANZEN SEKAI (attack)
- See THIRD MILLENIUM WORLD.
- SATOU MUSUBI (food/drink)
- See SUGARY RICE-BALLS.
- SERVICE PEARL REFINED PRESENT (sa-bisu pa-ru ibushiginn purezento / attack)
- The super-upgraded form of Pearl Present, where he jumps in the air and does a great headbutt/body slam.
- SEVEN ARMED SEAS (shichibukai / title)
- The title given to the seven strongest pirates in the world. These seven are authorized by the governments of
the world to do as they please. They are granted the freedom because they prey only upon uncharted territory or
other pirates, and send a portion of their findings (whether new or abducted from other pirates) back to the
government. So far, names for three of the seven have been revealed Mihawk Juraquille, Jinbei, and
Crocodile. It is unknown whether or not Shanks is currently one of the seven.
- SHAKUSHI (attack)
- See DEATH SCOOP.
- SHANKS PIRATE FLEET (shannkusu kaizokudann / group)
- The group that the 7-year-old Luffy looked up to in the first episode (ep.4 of the anime), led by none other than
Shanks, the original owner of the straw hat. Their flag is a skull and cross-swords, with three stripes over the
skull's left eye. These stripes are indicative of Shanks' three scratch scars over his left eye. They are one of the
most well-known fleets of the age, but its current whereabouts are unknown (other than the fact that it is somewhere
on the Grand Line).
- SHICHIBUKAI (title)
- See SEVEN ARMED SEAS.
- SHIT (kuso / slang)
- Sorry to pollute virgin eyes, but it's Sanji's favorite expletive. ^^;; Sanji sometimes uses this term as an
adjective to express extremes (much like how some use the word "fuckin'" in American slang -- once again, sorry to
all those sensitive to swearing). Also, Sanji often calls Zeff kusojijii, which means "shitheaded
old man".
- SHOKUATARI HOUGAN(MEATBALL) (attack)
- See INDIGESTION MEATBALL.
- SINGLE-STEM VASE (ichirinnzashi / attack)
- Kabaji's acrobatic trick that follows the Fireworks where he poises his sword downwards and pierces through
the target as he falls from the sky.
- SLIP-SLIP FRUIT (subesube no mi / devil fruit)
- The third devil fruit to make its appearance in the series. The eater of this particular nut acquires
a frictionless (i.e. perfectly smooth and very beautiful) skin that nothing in this world can damage... and in
the process it can make a fat freckled hag into a beautiful svelte woman... (I tell you, this nut
is every woman's dream, including mine..!!)
- SMOLDERING OLD MAN (kaji oyaji / attack)
- One of Kabaji's acrobatic tricks where he spits fire. If you can come up with a term for this
that rhymes, like in the Japanese, feel free to tell me. Incidentally, an old slang term in Japan for four
things people tend to be afraid of are "jishin, kaminari, kaji, oyaji" -- "earthquakes, thunder, fires,
and your dad".... so this attack could be said as a pun... ^^;;
- SOUTH BLUE (sausu bulu- / location)
- One of the four seas of the world. If you take the Grand Line as the Equator, and the Red Line as the Prime
Meridian, South Blue is the southern half of the Eastern Hemisphere.
- STEAM CLOUD MURDER (yukemuri satsujinn jikenn / attack)
- Another one of Kabaji's acrobatic trics. In this one, he creates a dustcloud, and attacks through the cloud.
This is most likely a reference to the cheezy whodunit movies in Japan that kill off chicks as they bathe in hot
springs (and therefore it's a murder in the steam clouds...) ^^;;;;
- STRAW HAT (mugiwara boushi / key item)
- Luffy's first treasure, and his trademark item. The boy was given the hat by his "mentor" of sorts, Shanks,
when they went their separate ways. Damaging the hat will positively invoke Luffy's wrath. One sign that he
shows you deep respect is if he entrusts the hat onto you.
- SUBE-SUBE NO MI (devil fruit)
- See SLIP-SLIP FRUIT.
- SUGARY RICE-BALLS (satou musubi / food/drink)
- Rika's culinary specialty(?) made just for Zoro. Thinking it would taste good, she sprinkled the rice-ball with
sugar instead of the normal option (salt). Helmeppo hated it and stomped it to the ground, but Zoro ate them all --
complete with the gritty sand -- and said it was delicious.... well, he had been fasting... ^^;;
(Incidentally, I decided that this would be the name for my personal site in jpns.)
- SYRUP VILLAGE (shiroppu mura / location)
- A town on the shore of East Blue, due west of Fusha Village and due east of Arlong Park. Usopp's hometown.
- THIRD MILLENIUM WORLD (sannzenn sekai / attack)
- Zoro's signature attack. First, the two blades in his hands get spun up to speed, then he bum-rushes with both
blades pointint outward, and one arm in front and the other behind himto give the maximum horizontal slash
coverage.
- TIGER HUNT (tora gari / attack)
- One of Zoro's 3-sworded attacks. In this one, he raises both arms over his left shoulder (carefully avoiding the
blade in his mouth) and then slashes the target with both blades as the third blade slices horizontally.
- TORAGARI (attack)
- See above. :P
- ULTRA NATURAL PEARL PRESENT (chou tennnenn pa-ru purezento / attack)
- An upgraded form of Pearl Present, used when Pearl gets upset.
- UO (building)
- A fish store in Fusha. "uo" is Japanese for "fish".
- USOPP "PIRATE" FLEET (usoppu kaizokudann / group)
- The group of 3 young boys that play with the town liar, "Captain" Usopp. They aren't pirates, but they play one
when they get together. They even had a logo: the usual skull and crossbones... but the skull looks like the face
from The Scream. Disbanded when Usopp joined the Luffy Pirate Fleet.
- U-TSUKOU (item)
- See WOOTS STEEL.
- WEST BLUE (uxesuto bulu- / location)
- One of the four seas of the world. If you take the Grand Line as the Equator, and the Red Line as the Prime
Meridian, West Blue is the southern half of the Western Hemisphere.
- WOOTS STEEL (u-tsukou / item)
- The steel that Krieg's breastplate is made out of.
- YAMANOBORO- (attack)
- See LET'S CLIMB A MOUNTAIN.
- YUKEMURI SATSUJIN JIKEN (attack)
- See STEAM CLOUD MURDER.
- ZETTAI SEIGI (term)
- See ABSOLUTE JUSTICE.
