Once upon a time in 1989 I started a club called Cal-Animage. It's done pretty well since I've left.
In 1990, I discovered something called irc and haven't left since. It's kind of like the Cheer's Bar. I usually hang out in the #Anime! channel.
In 1991, we started something called AnimeCon. It would end up completely revolutionizing Japanese animation in America.
In 1992, we formed The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation and Anime Expo which later grew to be the biggest anime convention in the United States. Currently, I am the President and CEO.
In 1993, I set up an independent consulting firm, Neo-Tokyo Enterprises, to deal with my various publishing and consulting projects. Most of the work has been in the area of Japanese animation, but new projects have brought me into the areas of law and the interactive entertainment industry.
A lot of this history was also chronicled in a story that the L.A.
Times ran in 1996. Click here if interested.
