about anime
*chuckle* Talk about a hobby that's gotten out of hand... Let's see now... what comes to mind when I think of anime...?
Anime Expo of course! If you haven't been there, then you don't know what you're missing. If you haven't worked there, you don't know half of what it takes!
And why am I there? Good question. I guess it's a combination of things... Mostly the friends, being a part of a team, putting together the largest anime convention in the USA! How did I get roped into this organization? J0KER! (aka. Aaron Pon and also my bf) That's how!
Hmm... I guess I should probably mention what my favorite anime and manga series are...
City Hunter - My favorite manga series has got to be City Hunter.
It all started on one of my annual family visits back to Taiwan. I spoke and understood mandarin fairly fluently but couldn't really read or write. So I asked my cousin what would be a good way to learn to read chinese characters. She promptly tossed me a couple random manga titles and brought me to a local bookstore where I picked up a little chinese-english dictionary. Of the few titles she gave me, the two titled "City Hunter" were the only ones with art subtle enough to help me decipher what they were talking about. (i.e. there were more subtle facial expressions, etc.) As months passed while I chipped away at the chinese characters, I began to understand the story... I already loved the art and detail Tsukasa Hojo used. I soon grew to like the depth of the characters... By the next visit to Taiwan I was hooked! Every following trip back I would buy a few more issues, until one mad summer trip on a student study tour, I ventured off campus, and into Taipei where I scoured the city until I returned with the complete set in my backpack. (this was back before the official published chinese translations.. so the manga issues numbered from 1-42. later when the official releases hit the bookstores the entire City Hunter series numbered from 1-35 same as that Japanese issues.) I can't recall how many times I've read the entire series by now but it cheers me up like any favorite book, and I never seem to tire of the main characters.
I now have several copies of the series...1 full set of the bootlegged, chinese manga (1-42), 2 copies of the official chinese translations (1-35), and about half of a full set of original japanese manga. I'm still waiting for the wideban editions like the ones they did for Cat's Eye.
I'm currently translating the entire City Hunter series into english. A lot of it has already been completed, but hasn't been entered into the computer. =p I'm working on it...
Maison Ikkoku - I love a good romantic comedy... Still adding a whole bunch of stuff... stay tuned...
This page is still under a LOT of construction... You'll probably see it undergo a lot of changes in a very short time...
