Back when I lived in Troy, my friend Atul and I took several trips through northern Vermont during the foliage season. This became harder to do once I moved to New Jersey and Atul started his new business, but in the fall of '97, I convinced Atul that it wouldn't be so bad for him and Rebecca to spend a weekend away from running Squonk, Inc., and instead enjoy the fall scenery.
I took the train up to Albany on a Friday night, and on Saturday morning, we loaded up the car, and Atul, Rebecca and myself were off on our weekend adventure.
Our first destination was the Ben & Jerry's factory in Stowe. Unfortunately we arrived rather late in the day and didn't want to wait several hours for a tour, but we did get a few good pictures there.

We spent the rest of the day driving up to Newport, a small town located just a few miles south of the Canadian border, on the shores of Lake Mephremagog. On Sunday, we drove the byroads of the extreme northeastern corner of Vermont, visiting remote and picturesque places such as the Connecticut River Valley, Monadnock Mountian, the village of Island Pond, and Lake Willoughby. Needless to say, the fall foliage created some spectacular scenery, and the photos we took hardly do it justice. But I highly recommend visiting Vermont's Northeast Kingdom at any time of year.
Here are a few photos from the trip; some of the files are over 100K in size, so be careful accessing them if your connection is slow.
