Have at least $2000 in savings by the year's end.
Some people, upon seeing my list of goals, remarked that it would be
wiser to reduce my debt as quickly as possible
than to put money into savings. However, the savings serves a specific
purpose: to provide a rainy-day fund in case I should find myself
unemployed again. In today's economy, this can never be ruled out.
1996 turned out to be a financially successful year for me, so I was able
to meet this goal easily.
